
Pioneer Women Finish Third at Carnegie Mellon Invitational
PITTSBURGH – Point Park's Cassondra O'Connor picked up her third first-place finish of the season by being the first to cross the finish line at Saturday's Carnegie Mellon Invitational at Schenley Park.
As a team, Point Park (105) finished third overall behind NCAA Division I programs Pittsburgh (64) and West Virginia (72). Duquesne came in fourth (113), followed by West Virginia Wesleyan (118) to round out the top five.
O'Connor turned in a time of 18:32.0 in the 5k race, edging out fellow MEC runners Leigha Hall (West Virginia Wesleyan, 18:33.8) and Natalie Barr (Glenville State, 18:35.9) for first place at the event.
Allison Plassio finished seventh in the race with a time of 19:17.9, and Jana Schmid took 15th with a time of 19:31.9.
The Pioneers will now have two weeks to prepare for the 2024 MEC Cross Country Championship, which is set for Saturday, Oct. 26 at Oglebay Resort in Wheeling, West Virginia. The women's 6k is slated for 10:30 a.m.
