Pioneers Face Tough Road Test at Wheeling on Friday

PITTSBURGH – Point Park volleyball will look for a 3-0 start in Mountain East Conference play on Friday evening at Wheeling University. The match is set for 7 p.m. at the Alma Grace McDonough Center.

Following a flip in the original home-and-home schedule, Point Park will travel to Wheeling on Friday night. Wheeling will now travel to Point Park on Friday, Nov. 8, with the match scheduled for a 7 p.m. start at CCAC.

Storylines

  • Point Park has opened conference play with back-to-back wins over Davis & Elkins and Frostburg State at the PPU Student Center.
  • On Thursday, Sept. 26, the Pioneers downed the Senators, 3-0, behind 19 kills from Giulia Follador.
  • On Tuesday night, Rachele Tessari recorded 14 kills to lead Point Park to a 3-1 win over Frostburg State. Eden McElhaney also drove home 11 kills against the Bobcats.
  • Mia Arndt has recorded 20-or-more digs in both MEC matches this fall, finishing with 21 digs against D&E and 28 versus Frostburg State.
  • Through 11 matches this season, McElhaney is first on the team in kills (106) and second in digs (121). McElhaney is hitting .133 on the season.
  • Follador is second on the team in kills with 98, while Tessari has tallied 85 kills on the year. Tessari has a team-high .156 hitting percentage this season.
  • Patricia Calero-Irizarry (24) and Haley Stormer (23) are first and second on the team in total blocks this season.
  • Elise Wallace is guiding the Point Park offense this season with 317 assists.
  • Wheeling University (8-7, 1-1 MEC) was the preseason favorite to win the MEC North Division this season.
  • Following Friday's matchup at Wheeling, Point Park will prepare for another road match at West Liberty on Tuesday, Oct. 8.
