
Point Park Volleyball Sweeps Davis & Elkins for First MEC Win
PITTSBURGH – Point Park opened Mountain East Conference play with a 3-0 sweep over Davis & Elkins on Thursday night from the Point Park University Student Center in Downtown Pittsburgh.
The Pioneers won by set scores of 25-22, 33-31 and 25-22. Despite the sweep, the match featured 22 ties and six lead changes, including 17 ties and three lead changes in the second set, which required eight extra points to decide a winner.
Point Park is now 2-8 overall and 1-0 in league play. D&E falls to 4-5 overall and 0-1 in MEC play.
The Pioneers hit .147 in the match with 48 kills compared to 27 errors.
Giulia Follador led Point Park with 19 kills and 15 digs in the victory, while Rachele Tessari chipped in 10 kills and 14 digs. Eden McElhaney and setter Elise Wallace also drove home seven kills apiece for the Pioneers.
In addition to her success on the attack, Wallace also passed out 33 assists to set up the Point Park attackers in the match. Mia Arndt had 21 digs in the back row for Point Park, while McElhaney added 17.
Davis & Elkins got 11 kills and three aces from Reanne Debose in the match, while Melisa Ozsar notched seven kills.
D&E held a 7-4 advantage in both total blocks and service aces in the match.
Point Park will remain at home to host Frostburg State on Tuesday evening in Mountain East Conference play. First serve is set for 7 p.m. from the PPU Student Center.
