
Pioneers Beat Bloomsburg University 3-0 to Close Out Vulcan Invitational
CALIFORNIA, Pa. – On the final day of the Vulcan Invitational being hosted by California (PA), Point Park beat Bloomsburg University 3-0 at the Convocation Center to close out the Invitational.
To begin the match Point Park came out hot, taking set one 25-15 from Bloomsburg. The second and third sets were much closer but ultimately Point Park came out on top. In the second set the Pioneers battled to a 34-32 win followed up by a 29-27 win in the third set to sweep the Huskies.
As a team the Pioneers hit .223 on 47 kills and 20 errors in the sweep while picking up 68 digs as well. For Point Park, Eden McElhaney picked up 14 kills and 18 digs while earning 17 points for Point Park. Giulia Follador was right behind McElhaney with 13 kills and 19 digs to help the Pioneers. Rachele Tessari also contributed to the Pioneers attack with 11 kills. Elise Wallace led all players with 37 assists while Mia Arndt had 18 digs and Patricia Calero-Iriza chipped in with 3 blocks for the Pioneers.
For Bloomsburg, Marlee Johnson led all Huskies with 11 kills, Elise Adelman picked up 32 assists, and Emily Gustie rounded out the Huskies stats with 10 digs.
Point Park moves to 1-7 overall while Bloomsburg falls to 1-6 to start the year. Point Park will return to the court on September 24 at the University of Pittsburgh-Johnstown before beginning Mountain East Conference play on September 26 as Point Park will host Davis & Elkins at 7:00 pm.
