Women's Volleyball Opens Season at Hall of Fame City Challenge

PITTSBURGH – The Point Park women's volleyball team will open the 2024 season on Friday and Saturday at the Hall of Fame City Challenge in North Canton, Ohio. Walsh and Malone are serving as hosts for the crossover event.

On Friday, Point Park meets Lake Erie at 12:15 in the afternoon, followed by a matchup against host Walsh at 2:30 p.m. On Saturday at 9 a.m., the Pioneers return to the court against Malone, followed by a match with Thomas More at 1:30 p.m.

Point Park Storylines

- The Point Park University volleyball team was voted fifth in the 2024 Mountain East Conference North Division Volleyball Poll, the league announced following a vote of the head coaches.

- The 2024 season will be the first for Point Park volleyball as a member of the Mountain East Conference, as the University enters year one of the NCAA Division II membership process.

- The Pioneers went 8-20 a season ago and return outside hitter Eden McElhaney (280 kills, 346 digs) and middle hitters Mariah Perez (team-leading 74 total blocks, 160 kills) and Haley Stormer (162 kills, 54 total blocks) from 2023.

- With the graduation of setter Ashlynn Gulakowski following the 2023 season, the Point Park offense will be paced by Elise Wallace this fall. Wallace finished second on the team in assists a season ago with 454.

- Junior defensive specialist Lily Marchand led the Pioneers with 23 service aces a season ago.

- Following this weekend's action in North Canton, Point Park returns to Pittsburgh for its home opener on Tuesday, Sept. 10 against Washington & Jefferson. First serve is set for 6 p.m.
