
Point Park drops RSC road match at Ohio Christian
CIRCLEVILLE, Ohio -- Point Park University volleyball lost a River States Conference matchup at Ohio Christian University, 3-0, on Tuesday night.
Ohio Christian had a couple of key runs -- both of six points -- in the first set to take the early lead in the match, 25-15. The Trailblazers were up 6-0, and after the Pioeners battled to within 17-12, another key run of points put OCU on top early.
Point Park had leads in each of the second and third sets but was unable to pull through. The Pioneers faced another early deficit in the second set but rebounded to tie the score at 10-10 and later had a 16-12 lead. But Ohio Christian came back to take the set, 25-20.
The Pioneers had a lead of 13-10 in the third and were still ahead, 15-14, on Amanda Contois' kill. Ohio Christian was able to inch ahead by a few points at 20-16 and held the lead the rest of the way to close out the match, 25-22.
Contois had a team-high 12 kills. Eden McElhaney had nine kill along with 11 digs while Giulia Follador had seven kills. Mariah Perez chipped in six kills. Ashlynn Gulakowski handed out 20 assists with Kenzie Zauner pulling in 16 digs, a team high.
Ohio Chrsitian had Alexa Mader with 10 kills and eight kills apiece from Morgan Blakeman, Allison Thompson and Brittlyn Call. Madison Blickenstaff added seven kills as those five hitters combined for 41 of the 43 kills for the team. Rylee Barr put up 35 assists, and Sophie Coleman collected 21 digs.
Point Park returns home to face RSC newcomer IUPUC in a match Friday night, Oct. 13 from the Student Center Gym. First serve is 7:00 p.m.
