Midway comes out on top over Point Park in RSC volleyball cross-division match

PITTSBURGH -- Point Park University volleyball fell to Midway (Ky.) University, 3-0, in a River States Conference matchup on Saturday from the Student Center Gym. The meeting of teams from opposite divisions in the RSC went to the Eagles, 25-19, 25-22, 25-16. 

A key part of the match was when Midway made a late run in the second set to forge a 2-0 lead in the match. With the momentum, the Eagles got out to an 18-11 lead in the third to move toward victory on the road. 

The Pioneers started the match with a 10-8 lead in the first. The Eagles mounted their first run of the day to stake a 15-11 lead on a kill by Aubry Koester and were later up, 21-16. 

The second set was tied at 11-11, but Point Park faced another deficit of 15-11, just like the first set. But this time, the Pioneers responded to go in front, 22-21. But Midway won the final four points of the set with three kills and an attack error from the Pioneers. 

Point Park had Elise Wallace with 14 assists and Ashlynn Gulakowski 13. Eden McElhaney led in kills with seven and digs with 14. Amanda Contois added six kills with Giulia Follador and Haley Stormer chipping in five each. Marcella Erichsen had four kills, all of which were in the the third set. 

Koester led all players with 10 kills. The Eagles had Hannah Brink, Meghan Adams and Tori Richman with seven kills apiece, and those three combined for just one error from Richman. Kyle Kohrs collected 13 digs. 

Point Park will go on the road for a RSC East Division match at Ohio Christian on Tuesday, Oct. 10. The Pioneers return home for a pair of RSC matches next weekend Oct. 13 versus IUPUC and Oct. 14 versus IU East.
