
Point Park volleyball clipped by Ohio Christian on Saturday
PITTSBURGH -- Point Park University volleyball fell to Ohio Christian, 3-0, on Saturday from the Student Center Gym. The Trailblazers won the River States Conference match 25-19, 25-19, 25-18.
Ohio Christian out-gunned the Pioneers, 41-30, in kills and held the advantage in digs as well, 61-49, as some big keys to the match.
After dropping the first set, Point Park was facing a 7-2 deficit in the second. But the Pioneers reeled off seven points in a row to take a 9-7 lead. Amanda Contois had three kills during the run, and she had a team-high nine kills on the day.
The second set was later tied at 18-18. But then Ohio Christian made a run of its own to move to set point at 24-18.
The third set was tied at 11-11 midway through. The Trailblazers managed a 15-11 lead on a kill by Madison Blickenstaff, who led OCU with 11 kills and a .310 hitting percentage. That provided the breathing room from there.
Ohio Christian had two players in double digits with Alexa Mader turning in 10 kills, also from the middle. OCU setter Rylee Barr had 30 assists and 13 digs.
For Point Park, other kill leaders were Eden McElhaney with seven along with 15 digs and Mariah Perez with six. Ashlynn Gulakowski contributed 18 assists with Kenzie Zauner getting 12 digs.
Point Park steps out of conference play to host Washington & Jefferson on Tuesday, Sept. 26 at 7:00 p.m. The Pioneers go out on the road for two RSC matches in Indiana.
