
Point Park women open up spring semester at Marshall Classic, pull in 11 Top-10s
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Point Park University women's indoor track & field had its first meet of 2024 at the Marshall (W.Va.) Alumni Classic, an NCAA Division I event, on Saturday at the Chris Cline Athletic Complex. The Pioneers posted 11 finishes in the Top 10 throughout the day.
The 4x400 relay had the highest placement for the Pioneers on the day. The team of Mya Greschner, Makayla Rice, Natalea Hillen and Diamond Rush put forth a time of 4 minutes, 12.56 seconds. That was behind only host Marshall from NCAA DI and was just in front of the two teams from West Virginia Wesleyan, an NCAA DII squad from the MEC.
Hillen, a senior from Peters Township High School, ran five events and had four Top-10 finishes. In addition to being on the runner-up 4x400 relay, she made the finals and placed fifth in her best event, the 60-meter hurdles. That was with a time of 9.22 seconds. Hillen also placed sixth in the high jump at 1.54 meters and 10th in the 200 at 27.28 seconds. Her fifth event featured an 11th-place showing in the 60-meter dash at 8.17 seconds.
The 400 runners had success individually as well with Rush taking fourth place at 1:01.31 and Rice running 1:04.74 for ninth place. Greschner was 11th in the 200 meters at 27.29 to finish right behind Hillen.
Jana Schmid, a junior from Germany, got her first action on the track since cross country and placed fifth in the 600 meters. She had a time of 1:47.31. The event had three Pioneers in the Top 10 with freshmen Cassondra O'Connor (1:48) in seventh and Kyleigh Nagy (2:15) in 10th.
Emma Roemer, already an NAIA national qualifier in the long jump, placed sixth in the event at Marshall. The freshman from Germany had a distance of 5.04 meters. Greschner placed 11th, Luchama Lubin 14th and Rice 15th.
Roemer also led the Pioneers in the triple jump taking seventh with a career best of 10.29 meters.
Olivia Hare ran the 3,000 meters for Point Park with the freshman from England taking a time of 11:19 for 13th place in the first track race of her college career.
Lina Single, a freshman from Germany, led Point Park in both of the throws. She was 18th in both the shot put (9.10 meters) and weight throw (9.78 meters), and it was a PR in the weight throw.
Point Park will be in action again on Saturday, Jan. 20 at the Ashland (Ohio) University Invitational, an NCAA Division II meet
