PITTSBURGH – Charleston stretched its winning streak to four games with a 4-0 victory over Point Park on Sunday afternoon at Highmark Stadium.
Juliette Lucas, the league's leading goal scorer, netted Charleston's first two goals. In the 37th minute, Demari Curry fed Lucas for the game's opening goal and UC took a 1-0 lead into the break.
In the 55th minute, Lucas scored an unassisted goal from inside the box to make it 2-0 Golden Eagles. Frankie Morrow made it 3-0 UC with an assist from Linsey Hackney in the 64th minute.
In the 67th minute, UC's Jamie Bland overcame a challenge from the Point Park defense and dropped in a goal on the left side for a 4-0 advantage for the visitors.
Charleston finished the afternoon with a 20-11 shot advantage, including a 10-4 edge in shots on goal. UC also had a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Paula Sole led Point Park with two shots on goal in the game, while Abigail Gnass and Klara Bring each recorded high-qualify scoring chances.
Reese Cauthen made the start in the Point Park goal and made five saves on the afternoon against UC's heavy offensive pressure. Frederieke Rijlaarsdam played the final 19 minutes in the PPU goal and added one more save.
Jordan Maynard and Sofia Chaverra combined for the shutout in the UC goal, with Maynard making the start and playing the first 78 minutes.
Point Park (2-8-3, 1-7-1) will return to Highmark Stadium on Wednesday afternoon to take on Wheeling University. The game is First Responders and Military Appreciation Day and is set for a 3 p.m. afternoon kickoff.
