ATHENS, W.Va. – Concord's Sydney Tucker scored in the 11th minute to lift the Mountain Lions to a 1-0 victory over Point Park on Wednesday afternoon in Athens. Tucker's game-winning goal was assisted by Caitlin Webster.
Following the narrow defeat, Point Park moves to 2-7-3 overall and 1-6-1 in league play. Concord improves to 6-5-1 overall and 5-3-1 in MEC play.
Statistically, Concord held a 16-6 advantage in total shots (6-2 in shots on goal). The Mountain Lions also held a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Point Park had two on-target scoring chances in the game. Just 16 seconds after Tucker's 11th minute goal, Point Park's Vanessa Vazquez fired a shot that required a save by CU goalkeeper Maddie Loughborough at the 11:18 mark.
Earlier in the first half, Mireya Rojas took Point Park's first shot of the game in the fourth minute, which was also turned away by Loughborough with a save.
Reese Cauthen earned the start in Point Park's goal on Wednesday and recorded five saves in the match.
Loughborough earned the win for Concord with two saves and the clean sheet.
The Pioneers will host their annual Whiteout Game on Sunday afternoon at Highmark Stadium. Kickoff is set for 12 noon against the University of Charleston.
