Early Goal Lifts West Virginia Wesleyan Past Point Park Women's Soccer

PITTSBURGH – West Virginia Wesleyan scored just seven minutes into the game and held on for a 1-0 win over Point Park on Sunday afternoon at Highmark Stadium in Downtown Pittsburgh.

Wesleyan's Maggie Queens found the back of the net in the seventh minute with an assist from Natalie Carlock to take the lead for good on Sunday.

Offensively, Point Park fired nine shots compared to just four by the Bobcats. The Pioneers also had a 5-3 advantage in shots on goal this afternoon.

Cara Spry led the Pioneer offense with two shots on goal, while Lisa Schot, Martina Cardemil and Vanessa Vazquez each recorded one scoring opportunity in the match.

Paige Miller picked up the win as Wesleyan's goalkeeper on Sunday, recording five saves to preserve the clean sheet. Frederieke Rijlaarsdam recorded two saves while playing all 90 minutes in the Point Park goal.

Point Park (2-6-3, 1-5-1 MEC) will head to Athens, West Virginia to take on Concord on Wednesday afternoon in MEC play. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
