West Virginia State Tops Point Park In MEC Play

INSTITUTE, W.Va. – The Point Park women's soccer team dropped a 6-2 final score against West Virginia State on Wednesday evening at Dickerson Stadium.

West Virginia State opened up a 3-1 lead in the first 34 minutes of the game and added three more goals in the second half to pull away for the victory.

With the Yellow Jackets leading 3-1 after halftime, the home team scored goals in the 45th and 46th minutes to push their lead to 5-1 with 43 minutes to play.

Point Park got on the scoreboard in the 24th minute on a goal by Jurnee Durrett-Finney (assisted by Mireya Rojas). Vanessa Vazquez added Point Park's second goal with an assist from Martina Cardemil in the 88th minute.

West Virginia State outshot Point Park by a 20-7 margin in the victory, including a 16-4 advantage in shots on goal.

Point Park will return home to host West Virginia Wesleyan on Sunday afternoon at Highmark Stadium. Kickoff is slated for noon.
