GLENVILLE, W.Va. – Point Park's Vanessa Vazquez scored in the 85th minute to force a 2-2 draw between PPU and Glenville State on Sunday afternoon at Morris Stadium. Vazquez's game-winning goal was assisted by Madison Spencer.
With the score knotted at 0-0, Point Park's Martina Cardemil made it 1-0 on an unassisted goal in the 19th minute.
Point Park maintained its 1-0 advantage until the 67th minute, when Glenville State found the back of the net on a goal by Sophia Calkins (assisted by Aitana Viejo).
In the 71st minute, Calkins scored again, this time assisted by Marcelle Stoller, giving GSU a 2-1 second-half lead that stood for 14 minutes.
Statistically, Glenville State held a 16-5 advantage in total shots, including a 6-4 edge in shots on goal. GSU also had a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Vazquez led the Pioneers with three total shots on the offensive end, including two shots on goal and her game-winner in the 85th minute.
In the PPU goal, Frederieke Rijlaarsdam made four saves while playing all 90 minutes to earn the draw.
Point Park (2-4-3, 1-3-2 MEC) will return to play on Wednesday, Oct. 9 at West Virginia State. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. in Institute, West Virginia.
