Late Goal Lifts Point Park to 2-1 Win Over Davis & Elkins

PITTSBURGH – Paula Sole's goal in the 78th minute proved to be the difference in Point Park's 2-1 win over Davis & Elkins on Wednesday evening at Highmark Stadium.

Sole's goal was assisted by Sterre Kuijper with a pass-and-score from the right side of the box.

Point Park has now won two-straight games and improves to 2-4-2 overall and 1-3-1 in the MEC. Davis & Elkins falls to 0-7-1 overall (0-5-1 MEC).

With the game scoreless in the 34th minute, Point Park's Cara Spry found the back of the net on an unassisted goal to give the Pioneers a 1-0 lead at the half.

Davis & Elkins knotted the score on a goal by Rylie Galterio in the 53rd minute as the teams played in the early stages of the second half. The 1-1 deadlock remained until Sole's game-winner in the 78th minute.

Statistically, Davis & Elkins doubled up Point Park with a 13-6 shot advantage in the game. D&E also had a 6-3 edge in shots on goal, as Point Park goalkeeper Frederieke Rijlaarsdam made fives saves and picked up her first win this season in the Pioneer goal.

Point Park will now hit the road for two-straight conference games, beginning on Sunday at Glenville State. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. at Morris Stadium.
