Point Park Meets Wheeling In MEC Opener Sunday

PITTSBURGH – The Point Park women's soccer team will open Mountain East Conference play with a road match at Wheeling University on Sunday afternoon. The action will get underway at 1 p.m. from Bishop Schmitt Stadium.

Point Park comes into the match with a record of 0-1-1 in non-conference play. Wheeling is 0-2 on the season, falling to Lincoln (3-2) and Malone (3-1) in non-conference play.

Point Park Storylines

  • Point Park opened the season with a 2-0 loss at Walsh last Monday, before battling to a 1-1 draw against Carnegie Mellon on Thursday on the road.
  • Sterre Kuijper scored Point Park's lone goal of the season against Carnegie Mellon, an unassisted goal in the 59th minute.
  • In Point Park's two non-conference games, the Pioneers have been limited to just seven total shots, with six of them being on-target.
  • Sophomore Paula Sole has taken two shots to lead the Pioneers this season, with five other players recording one shot each.
  • Three different players have seen action in the Point Park goal this season. Maggie Pappas has played 90 minutes and has recorded three saves on the season. Reese Cauthen played 45 minutes and recorded the decision against Walsh on Monday evening. She recorded three saves against Walsh.
  • In Thursday's draw against CMU, Frederieke Rijlaarsdam played the final 45 minutes and recorded two saves to earn the decision.

  • Point Park will remain on the road on Wednesday at Frostburg State, before coming home to face West Liberty on Saturday (9/21) at 11 a.m. at Highmark Stadium.
