NORTH CANTON, Ohio – Walsh scored two unassisted goals and defeated Point Park in its 2024 season opener, 2-0, on Monday evening at Larry Staudt Field in North Canton.
Walsh's Maddie Schweiger made it 1-0 in the 23rd minute on a goal that beat the goalkeeper in the lower right of the goal. Early in the second half, Paityn Marino made it 2-0 in the 53rd minute, again beating the goal keeper to the lower right on an unassisted shot attempt.
Walsh held a 15-5 advantage in total shots, including a 6-4 advantage in on-target shots.
Four Pioneers fired shots on goal, including Gillianne Stewardson, Tatum Lucero, Paula Sole' Cifre and Jamie Spurrell.
Katie Corrigan paced the Walsh offense with six total shots, including three on-target shots.
Point Park split time in goal on Monday evening. Reese Cauthen made the start and recorded three saves in the first half, while Maggie Pappas played the final 45 minutes and made one save.
O'Malley Quinlan made four saves for Walsh to pick up the shutout victory in goal.
The Pioneers will return to action on Thursday evening against Carnegie Mellon. Kickoff is slated for 7:30 p.m.
