Point Park women's soccer pulls away for 5-2 conference win at WVU Tech

BECKLEY, W.Va. -- Point Park University women's soccer scored five unanswered goals to power their way to a 5-2 win at WVU Tech on Saturday afternoon. The Pioneers moved to within one point of first place in the River States Conference with the victory. 

Point Park is now 9-4-3 overall and 6-1-1 RSC and is just behind Rio Grande (6-0-2 RSC) and IU Kokomo (6-0-2 RSC) for the conference lead. The Pioneers have two games left in the regular season with a visit to Rio Grande on Oct. 26 before playing IUPUC on Oct. 28 for Senior Day at home. 

WVU Tech took a 1-0 lead on a penalty kick by Stheisy Lemus in the 21st minute. The Pioneers shook that off and carried a 2-1 lead into the half. Vanessa Vazquez tied things up with the first of her two goals on the day, the first one coming minutes after the PK at 21:22. 

Holly Pascoe assisted both of the goals in the first half, the second of which put the Pioneers ahead on Chanell Britten's tally at 39:00. 

The Pioneers pushed the lead to 3-1 on Madison Spencer's big goal at the 58:07 mark. The unassisted marker put the Pioneers in control. 

A total of three goals were scored in the final two minutes with a pair of Vanessa's -- Vazquez and Ellwanger -- notching more goals for Point Park. WVU Tech scored in the 90th minute to make the final score 5-2. 

Point Park enjoyed a shot advantage of 14-6. That was a big disparity of 10-4 in the first half. Point Park also had four corners during the first half and five overall.
