Pioneers race to 5-0 win at Midway (Ky.) to start RSC weekend road trip

MIDWAY, Ky. -- Point Park University women's soccer raced to a 5-0 win at Midway (Ky.) University on Thursday to begin their River States Conference weekend road trip.

The Pioneers (8-4-3, 5-1-1 RSC) got out to a 3-0 lead at the half and carried the shutout the entire way to their third victory in a row. 

Holly Pascoe scored three goals with two coming in the first 12 minutes to stake the Pioneers to an early 2-0 lead. She made it a hat trick with her goal in the 51st minute to push the score to 4-0. 

Other goal scorers for the Pioneers were Cara Spry in the 21st minute and Mireya Rojas putting the game out of reach at 5-0 in the 67th minute. 

Point Park had four assists on the day with only Pascoe's hat-trick goal going unassisted. Those assists came from four different players as a total of seven players got points in the game. 

Vanessa Vazquez and Anne Barbosa set up the first two goals to Pascoe. Lorena Montanes got the assist for Spry's goal. Paula Sole earned the assist for Rojas' final tally. 

Point Park was in control throughout. The first half was heavily in the Pioneers' favor in terms of shots with a 16-2 advantage for the away side.  The Pioneers had another six shots the final 45 minutes. 

Midway had only three shots on the day with one shot on goal in each half. Maggie Pappas and Ella Serlin both saw action in goal for the Pioneers each making a save. 

It was the third shutout of the year for the Pioneers and the first one since Aug. 31. 

The victory pushes the Pioneers to third place in the RSC with three games to go. Point Park is at WVU Tech on Saturday, Oct. 21 for a 2:30 p.m. kickoff.
