CIRCLEVILLE, Ohio -- Point Park University women's soccer exploded for a 9-1 victory at Ohio Christian University on Thursday afternoon. The Pioneers (6-4-3, 3-1-1 RSC) scored their most goals in a River States Conference game this year.
The Pioneers raced out to a 6-0 halftime lead over Ohio Christian (0-9, 0-6 RSC). It was total domination for the Pioneers with 35 shots on their side compared to just three for the Trailblazers.
Point Park had three players with two goals apiece. Lorena Monates scored the first two goals of the game within the first 4:30. Vanessa Vazquez also had two goals of her own in the first half. Tatium Lucero scored both of her goals in the second half as the Pioneers stretched out the lead.
The Pioneers had seven assists on the day with Montanes, Vazquez and Anne Barbosa getting two each. Lucero had an assist as well.
Other first-half goals came from Mireya Rojas with the assist from Barbosa and from Holly Pascoe with the assist from Vazquez. Montanes setup Vazquez for her second goal at the 32:49 mark to stake the 6-0 lead.
The first half saw the Pioneers hold a 23-1 shot advantage. The Pioneers got eight of their 13 corner kicks the first 45 minues and conceded just one for the game.
Lucero was involved in all three goals of the second half. Not only did she notch unassisted tallies in the 78th and 87th minutues, she also assist on Orsi Tatai's goal at 85:28.
Maggie Pappas and Ella Serlin split the time as goalkeeper playing the first and second half, respectively.
Point Park's split weekend in the RSC continues with a home date versus Shawnee State (Ohio) on Saturday night. Kickoff is 6:00 p.m. at Highmark Stadium for a White Out game.
