PITTSBURGH -- Point Park University women's soccer nearly made it two calendar years without losing a River States Conference game. That streak came to an end Thursday night, Oct. 5 with a 2-0 home defeat to Indiana University Kokomo at Highmark Stadium. It was Point Park's first RSC loss since Oct. 16, 2021 at Rio Grande.
Point Park (5-4-2, 2-1 RSC) had been riding a 16-game conference unbeaten streak. That included the first two RSC games of this season, going undefeated in 10 RSC games last year and ending the 2021 regular season unbeaten in the last four games.
The streak finally came to an end thanks to IU Kokomo getting a goal in each half to win. The Cougars (5-3-4, 3-0-1 RSC) got a couple of goals to go despite a shot advantage of 30-14 in favor of the Pioneers.
Things were pretty even in the first half with Point Park leading 8-7 shots. The Pioneers mounted 22 shots compared to seven for IU Kokomo in the second half but could not get on the board.
Kailee Moore posted a shutout for IU Kokomo stopping all 12 shots on goal she faced. She made six saves in each half to provide the difference.
Kelsi Hoot scored in the first half when she was in the right place following a rebound at the 43:58 mark. Keely Hoopingarner was behind the defense receiving a long pass at the 64:42 mark to make it 2-0.
Point Park enjoyed an edge in corner kicks as well at 7-4 but was on the wrong side of the foul calls, 15-8.
Point Park will get back into action on Saturday, Oct. 7 for another RSC game versus St. Mary-of-the-Woods (Ind.) College. Kickoff is 1:00 p.m. at Highmark Stadium for Family Day.
