Pioneers move to 2-0 RSC with road victory at Indiana East, 2-1

RICHMOND, Ind. -- Point Park University women's soccer moved to 2-0 in the River States Conference with Saturday's 2-1 road victory over Indiana University East.

The Pioneers (5-3-2, 2-0 RSC) won for the third time in the last four games with a goal in each half. Lorena Montanes put Point Park ahead with a goal in the 15th minute. With the game tied at 1-1 at the half, the Pioneers went on to win with Paula Sole's tally at 67:57.

Point Park was in control of the game, especially in the second half when it had a 9-1 advantage in shots. After each team got six shots the first 45 minutes, the rest of the game was mostly Point Park. The Pioneers led 15-7 in shots for the game. Point Park had seven corner kicks -- all in the second half -- and didn't conceded one all day.

The Point Park defense knew what to do with the second-half lead. The Pioneers allowed just the one shot on frame the second half. The Pioneers have given up 13 goals in their 10 games.

Point Park will have a pair of home games this coming week with a big matchup on Thursday, Oct. 5 versus IU Kokomo followed by a meeting with St. Mary-of-the-Woods (Ind.) on Saturday, Oct. 7. IU Kokomo won the RSC Championship last year with the RSC regular season coming down to the Pioneers and Cougars a year ago.
