TAKOMA PARK, Md. -- Point Park University women's soccer scored 10 unanswered goals to win 10-1 at Washington Adventist (Md.) University on Sunday. The Pioneers (3-2-2) went down 1-0 in the first 12 minutes before turning on the firepower.
Point Park won the NAIA non-conference matchup with 10 goals and eight assists on the day. There were four players with a brace with Anne Barbosa, Lisa Schot, Maria Gomez and Chanell Britten all getting two goals apiece.
Barbosa scored her first goal at the 19:13 mark of the first half to tie things up. Holly Pascoe then put in her fifth of the year moments later to put the Pioneers up for good. Before the half was through, Gomez added her goals in the 22nd and 31st minutes with Schot got on the board in the 30th minute. That put Point Park up 5-1 at halftime.
After a first half in which the Pioneers led 12-1 in shots, they kept the pressure on. Barbosa and Schot both had their second goals within the first 15 minutes of the second half. Vanessa Ellwanger also made the scoresheet with her first of the year. Britten punctuated the the win in the 75th and 85th minutes.
Point Park ended up with a 19-3 advantage in shots. The eight assists came from seven different players with Paula Sole picking up two. Other assists came from Pascoe, Cara Spry, Alina Bigec, Mireya Rojas, Schot and Amanda Scott.
Point Park will begin River States Conference play in its next game. The Pioneers host Brescia (Ky.) on Thursday, Sept. 21. Kickoff is 5:00 p.m. for Faculty & Staff Appreciation Night.
