Point Park earns 3-1 victory over Lourdes at AHN Montour Complex

PITTSBURGH -- Holly Pascoe scored two goals, and Gillian Bierhals made seven saves to key a 3-1 victory for Point Park University women's soccer over Lourdes (Ohio) University on Wednesday night. The game was played at AHN Montour Complex.

The Pioneers (2-2-2) evened their record through six games and bounced back from a late loss to Mt. Vernon Nazarene at the very same venue just a few days prior.

Point Park was on top within the first six minutes for the second game in a row as Holly Pascoe caused a turnover and then scored at the 5:36 mark for an unassisted goal.

The score remained 1-0 through halftime as each team had five shots the first 45 minutes.

Point Park pushed the lead to 2-0 on Lorena Montanes' tally in the 54th minute. After Anne Barbosa won a ball, the Pioneers connected some passes with Barbosa finding Pascoe, who got it to Mireya Rojas. Rojas set up Montanes for the shot at the 18-yard line to pick up the assist.

Lourdes ended up with an 11-8 shot advantage. Point Park had to withstand that, as well as six corner kicks from the Gray Wolves (2-2), all of which came in the second half.

The Pioneers made several defensive stands, and Bierhals stood tall in goal with some really big saves. She had three saves the first half and four more to preserve the lead in the second half.

Pascoe scored her second goal of the game and her fourth of the year to put the game away in the 85th minute. That was good for a 3-0 lead. Lourdes did get on the board in the last three minutes, but it was too late.

Point Park will be on the road for its next game, Sept. 17 at Washington Adventist (Md.) for another NAIA non-conference game.
