Point Park wins season opener at Michigan-Dearborn, 2-0

DEARBORN, Mich. -- Point Park University women's soccer opened the 2023 season with a 2-0 victory at Michigan-Dearborn on Wednesday afternoon. The Pioneers (1-0) scored a goal in each half and allowed only two shots on goal in the NAIA non-conference win.

Point Park got started early with a goal by Vanessa Vazquez in the seventh minute. Anne Barbosa sent a corner kick right to Vazquez on the goal line, and she knocked it in. Holly Pascoe was there to make sure it found the back of the net with Vazquez getting credit for the goal.

Point Park did not allow a shot on frame the entire first half taking the 1-0 lead into the break. The lead was in good hands throughout with the Pioneers putting it away on Barbosa's goal at the 82:02 mark. Pascoe earned the assist by setting up Barbosa right in front of the goal.

The Pioneers had 18 players see action in the game utilizing the depth for 90 minutes. Point Park had seven subs in the first half with those players starting the second half as well.

Point Park returns home to play Madonna (Mich.) in its home opener on Saturday. Kickoff is 1:00 p.m. at Highmark Stadium. The weekend starts out with a developmental game versus Madonna on Friday at 4:00 p.m. also at home.
