SEWICKLEY, Pa. -- Point Park University women's golf concluded its fall season with a match play event versus Westminster on Monday, Oct. 17. The match was held at Sewickley Heights Golf Club to provide a challenging track combined with cold temperatures and gusts of high winds.
Point Park and Westminster are familiar competitors as both squads are regularly on the local circuit of tournaments. The final event of the fall provided a direct matchup with the Titans.
Point Park senior Olivia Stawovy highlighted the day for the Pioneers with a victory over Westminster's Kasey Clifford in the No. 1 matchup. Stawovy closed out the match on the 17th hole with a 2 & 1 victory.
Westminster won the other four matches to take the match play, 4-1. Point Park's Darian Lees had a close loss of 3 & 2 to Alyssa Rapp from Westminster. Point Park freshmen Julia Goetz and Marissa Moriconi had their first matchup in match play and were best 5 & 3 and 6 & 5, respectively. The Pioneers had Megan Locke withdraw during the match.
The Pioneers look ahead to a spring season with a schedule of matches to be determined. Check back at PointParkSports.com when the schedule becomes available. The spring season will include the RSC Women's Golf Championship April 23-25 at Belterra Golf Course in Florence, Ind.
