Point Park women's basketball moves to 4-0 with win over UM Dearborn

PITTSBURGH -- Point Park University women's basketball is 4-0 on the year after a 95-64 win over visiting University of Michigan-Dearborn on Monday, Nov. 6. The Pioneers (4-0) completed a stretch of three wins in four days with the NAIA, non-conference victory. 

Point Park got out to a 51-28 lead at halftime to beat the Wolverines (1-1). It was another balanced effort for the Pioneers with five players scoring in double digits led by Gillian Piccolino with 22 points on 5 for 8 from long range and fellow NCAA Division I transfer Gabriella Legister putting up 19 points and 13 rebounds on 9 for 14 from the floor. 

Ari Bleda had another one of her all-around games making the Pioneers go with 13 points, 10 rebounds, four assists, two steals and two blocks. 

Point Park had 30 points off the bench with Coral Homs posting a double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds and Aichata Ballo getting 12 points and seven rebounds. Emma Pavelek chipped in eight points just under double digits. 

The Pioneers had a 24-15 lead at the end of the first quarter with Bleda canning a trey at the end of the period. In teh second quarter, Legister scored twice inside, which was followed immediately by a pair of treys of Piccolino as Point Park was ahead, 38-21.

Legister finished off the half with a put-back layup to bump the lead above 20 points. She had 13 by halftime, and Piccolino had 15 by then. 

The second half continued the same way. Point Park got the lead to 30 points by the end of the third, 72-42. They were still up by 30 on a 3-pointer by Homs in the fourth quarter, 86-56.

Point Park is off until going to Washington Adventist (Md.) for an NAIA non-conference game on Monday, Nov. 13.
