Pitt takes exhibition matchup over the Point Park women's basketball

PITTSBURGH -- Pitt came out strong in the women's basketball exhibition matchup with Point Park University on Monday night from the Petersen Events Center. The Panthers from NCAA Division I and the ACC took the exhibition contest, 117-49, over the NAIA Pioneers.

Pitt had four players reach double figures with three of those over 20 points. Point Park had Gillian Piccolino score 16 points and make three 3-pointers. Alexis Giles also made three treys on her way to 11 points for the Pioneers.

Pitt was too much, though, with 6-2 center Jala Jordan getting 25 points on 10 for 17 shooting. It was her first action with the Panthers after playing at WVU, Auburn and Seton Hall previously. USC transfer Bella Perkins was 9 for 14 for 21 points and three treys. Pitt veteran Liatu King, a 6-0 forward, had 21 points on 11 for 14 from the floor.

Point Park was down 61-21 at the half. The Pioneers kept battling in the second half with Coral Homs getting all nine of her points the final two quarters. Chloe Williams added six points in six minutes, all in the second half.

The Pioneers had their best quarter in the fourth with Pitt scoring 28 points compared to 22 for Point Park. Point Park made three treys in the fourth and got to the line 10 times with seven makes in the final period.

Point Park gets back to regular-season play this coming weekend for three games in four days from Friday to Monday. The Pioneers host NAIA Fisher (Mass.) on Friday at 5:00 p.m. before hosting PSU-Schuylkill and Michigan-Dearborn for a three-team classic starting Saturday.
