Point Park men take 6th at RSC Cross Country Championship

MIDWAY, Ky. -- Point Park University placed sixth of 12 teams at the 2023 River States Conference Men's Cross Country Championship held Saturday, Nov. 4 at Falling Spring Cross Country Course. 

The Pioneers totaled 152 points and were 10 points away from being in the top four. Ramiro Ulunque, a junior from Bolivia, led the Pioneers in 20th place overall to earn All-RSC Third Team honors.

The top three teams pulled away from the rest with No. 15-nationally ranked Shawnee State (Ohio) winning the team title in its first year in the RSC. The Bears had all five of its scorers place in the Top 10 individually and had six all-conference runners.

After Shawnee State with 26 points, Rio Grande (Ohio) jumped up to second place with 58 points to beat out No. 24-nationally ranked IU East with 65. 

Point Park's team average for the day was 27 minutes, 8 seconds on the 8,000-meter course. There were 114 runners in the race with the Pioneers putting their top five in the Top 40 places. 

Ulunque ran a time of 26:34 for 20th place. Next for the Pioneers were Luke McKenna (26:56) and Elijah James (27:05) in 31st and 32nd place. 

Point Park had eight runners come in under 27:50 with their next five all close to each other. That group was led by Jannik Windelband (27:32) in 39th followed right behind by Joshua Gosselin (27:34) in 40th and Jordan Kullen (27:35) in 41st. 

The Point Park pack continued with Gabe Ebersole (27:49) and John Dyar (27:50) in 43rd and 44th, respectively.
