Point Park men race at RMU Colonial Invitational with many PRs in the DI meet
CLINTON, Pa. -- Point Park University men's cross country got a chance to race against the NCAA Division I and II teams in the area on Saturday at the RMU Colonial Invitational. The meet was held at the Youthtowne Fields in Clinton, Pa.
Point Park had six of its nine runners establish personal-records on an overall good day for the Pioneers. That included junior Jannik Windelband flirting with the Point Park 8K record. He led the Pioneers posting a time of 25 minutes, 55 seconds. That made him just the second Point Park runner to break 26:00 in a meet joining record holder Xavier Stephens ('20), who did it twice. Windelband had a pace of 5:13 per mile over the five miles to come within eight seconds of Stephens' school record of 25:47 on Sept. 21, 2019 at Lock Haven.
The race had 16 runners come in under 25:00 and a total of 36 under 26:00. For the Pioneers, they had six runners finish in under 28 minutes. Point Park's top five had a split of 1:29 after Windelband's near school record. Windelband led the way in 32nd place out of 88 runners.
Freshman Luke McKenna ran the first 8K of his career coming in second for the Pioneers and 48th overall. He has established his PR of 26:29 with his performance. Sophomore Joshua Gosselin was next for Point Park right behind in 49th place. He ran 26:36 to start off his second year with a PR for an 8K.
Jordan Kullen was another sophomore getting a PR in his first 8K of the year. He was fourth on the team running 27:11. Junior Elijah James put up a time of 27:24 to complete Point Park's top five. The top seven all coming in under 29:00 included junior John Dyar (27:38) and sophomore Gabe Ebersole (28:22). Continuing with the PRs were senior Andy Schach (30:57) and freshman Kodi Quimby (33:31).
Point Park will be in action again in two weeks at the Greater Louisville Classic on Sept. 30.
