Point Park men's track & field competes at Bucknell, Westminster for latest weekend meets

Point Park University men's track and field competed at the Westminster Invitational and the Bucknell Bison Outdoor Classic for their latest weekend of outdoor meets.

A national qualification and a school record headlined the performances at Bucknell. Ramiro Ulunque, a junior from Bolivia, qualified for the NAIA national championships with a strong showing in the 800 meters. He ran a time of 1:52.11 to meet the NAIA B standard and place 17th. That was just off his school record in the event but enough to put him at the NAIA outdoor national meet for the second year in a row.

Juan Barrera broke the school record in the 400 meters running 49.54 seconds at Bucknell. That took down a record that stood for the last eight years and placed 36th at the meet. Barrera also ran the 200 meters there with a time of 22.40 seconds. Both of his races on the weekend were PRs.

Other performances at Bucknell were Jannik Windelband 4:04 in the 1,500 meters, Wesley Trower 50.24 in the 400 and Damir Lomax running the 100 meters at 12.89 and the 110 hurdles at 16.32.

A couple more school records fell at Westminster as well. Chevaughn Fletcher won the hammer throw with a toss of 47.92 meters. That beat his own school record.

Luke McKenna broke one of the oldest remaining school records in the 10,000 meters. He ran 32 minutes, 44.39 seconds for third place to take down the record from 2015, the first year of Point Park track and field. He now has the outdoor school records in the 3K, 5K and 10K.

Joshua Gosselin ran PR in the 10,000 meters as well placing fifth at 33:32.18.

Gavin Glass led the Pioneers in both of the hurdle events running the 110 hurdles in 15.94 seconds for eighth place and the 400 hurdles in 1:02.53 for 18th place.

In the 3,000-meter steeple chase, Jordan Kullen came in 10th at 10:36 with Gabe Ebersole 14th at 10:58.

Point Park had its 4x400 squad place eighth with a time of 3:36.

Tyler Hare led the Pioneers in the sprints going 11.12 in the 100 meters and 23.24 in the 200 meters. Emmanuel Akpoli had a time of 24.12 in the 200.

The 400 meters had Steve Bradley (53.36) and Toby Wright (53.54) leading the way for Point Park. Andy Schach had a time of 2:07 in the 800 meters.

Fletcher had another Top 10 in the shot put throwing 14.31 meters for sixth place. David Attram had a distance of 12.64 meters for 15th place.

Cooper Lytle had a team-best of 40.85 meters in the javelin for 15th place.

Point Park will go to the Slippery Rock Invitational on April 18 and the RMU Invitational on April 20 for its next competition.
