Point Park men's track & field competes at George Mason and Slippery Rock meets

 

 

 

Point Park University men's track and field competed at the George Mason and Slippery Rock invitationals this past weekend representing the squad at two different meets.

GEORGE MASON MEET

Jannik Windelband was a highlight at George Mason qualifying for the NAIA national championship in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. The junior from Germany ran a time of 9 minutes, 24.74 seconds for a PR and the NAIA B standard.

Windelband qualified for nationals in the event for the second year in a row and placed fourth at the meet, and it was also a school record. 

Kanye Mills had two high placements in the hurdles. He was second in the 110 hurdles at 14.65 seconds. That was a school record but was not eligible for nationals due to wind. In the 400 hurdles, he placed third at 55.13 seconds, just over half a second away from nationals.

Damir Lomax pulled in a Top 10 in the 100 meters running 11.01 seconds for ninth place. He also led the Pioneers in the 200 at 22.35 seconds for 12th place. Juan Barrera (22.65) and Wesley Trower (23.14) were also in that event. Barrera represented in the 400 at 50.96 seconds for 18th place. 

The 4x400 relay posted a time of 3:24.44 with Barrera, Ulunque, Trower and Mills coming in third place. 

Ramiro Ulunque was 12th in the 800 meter running 1:54 with Elijah James coming in at 1:57.

Luke McKenna and Joshua Gosselin ran the 5,000 meters with times of 15:50 and 16:09, respectively.

Akeem Mustapha was in the jumps with a high of fourth place in the long jump. That was with a leap of 7.00 meters. 

SLIPPERY ROCK MEET

The throwers went to the SRU meet. Jakob Blatnik once again hitting the national marks in the javelin and Chevaughn Fletcher a school record in the hammer led the way. 

Blatnik threw the javelin 60.82 meters for the NAIA A standard again. That put him fourth at the meet. Nasir Galloway was 42.96 meters as another of the five Pioneers in the event. 

Fletcher sent the hammer 46.80 meters for his school record, beating his own previous mark to place fourth at the meet. Fletcher also led the team in the shot put throwing 14.84 meters for fifth place. 

David Attram led the way in the discus with a mark of 34.17 meters with Ben Blahovec close behind at 34.12 meters.

Gavin Glass placed ninth in the 110 hurdles as the highest finish on the track. That was with a time of 16.59 seconds. 

Point Park had four runners in the 200 with Tyler Hare running 23.03 seconds to pace the team. Cesar Villegas 23.92 sedoncs, Toby Wright 24.05 seconds and Andre Hardwick 25.61 seconds.

Wright and Hare were in the 400 meters with times of 53.59 and 54.58 seconds. Maxwell Goode had the best time on the team in the 100 meters running 11.74 with Villegas and Hardwick also in the event.

Xavier Tolliver led the Pioneers in the jumps taking 10th in the long jump (6.15 meters) and 15th in the high jump (1.68 meters). Goode was in all three jump with his best placement being 11th in the long jump at 6.04 meters.

The Pioneers will be at the Westminster Invitational April 12-13 and at the Bucknell Bison Outdoor Classic April 13-14 for their next meets.
