Point Park ranked No. 18 in NAIA Men's Indoor Track & Field Top 25 rating from USTFCCCA
NEW ORLEANS -- Point Park University is ranked No. 18 in the country for the NAIA Men's Indoor Track & Field Top 25 ratings that were released Wednesday (Jan. 24) by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
The Pioneers are nationally ranked in the Top 25 during the indoor season for the first time in team history. The program was previously ranked last year when it spent the entire outdoor season in the Top 25.
Point Park has competed in four indoor meets so far this season with two NCAA Division I events, an NCAA Division II event and one of the top NAIA events in the region at the Indiana Tech Warrior Open. The Pioneers lead the River States Conference as the only member ranked, and they are currently ranked fifth in the NAIA Great Lakes Region.
The ratings take into all marks from individuals so far in the 2023-24 season. The rankings of each of those individuals from a school make up the team rating as compared with the marks from other teams around the rest of the country.
The Pioneers have six NAIA national qualifiers so far in the indoor season. Chevaughn Fletcher is ranked second in the country for the weight throw at 19.65 meters. Other Top-10 national rankings are Akeem Mustapha sixth as a national qualifier in the long jump (7.26 meters), Collins Eze eighth as a national qualifier in the triple jump (14.48 meters) and Elijah James ninth as a national qualifier in the 600 meters (1:21.05).
Kanye Mills is an NAIA indoor qualifier in the 60-meter hurdles and is ranked 24th in the country at 8.29 seconds. Kodi Quimby has qualified in the 3,000 meter racewalk as well.
Just one second off from NAIA qualification is the Pioneers' 4x400 relay team ranked 11th in the nation at 3:20.14 and featuring Juan Barrera, Steve Bradley, James and Mills. In the open 400, Bradley is 35th in the NAIA with his school record of 49.54 seconds.
Ramiro Ulunque is ranked 22nd in the country for the 800 meters running 1:55.87. Jannik Windelband (4:19) and Ulunque (4:20) are 27th and 28th, respectively, in the mile.
The Point Park jumpers also have Mustapha ranked 17th in the triple jump and Eze 31st in the long jump. Fletcher is 32nd in the shot put.
