
Point Park men post three school records at Ashland, Mills makes NAIA nationals in hurdles
ASHLAND, Ohio -- Point Park University men's track & field continued its indoor season on Saturday from the Ashland (Ohio) Invitational, and the Pioneers brought home three school records and a national qualifier Kanye Mills.
Mills, a freshman from Blackwood, N.J., qualified for NAIA nationals in the 60-meter hurdles breaking his own school record with a time of 8.29 seconds. That hit the NAIA 'B' qualifying standard and placed fifth in the prelims at Ashland. After making the finals, he placed seventh.
Steve Bradley notched another school record placing sixth in the 400 meters. That was with a time of 49.54 seconds, his first time breaking 50 seconds and beating Mills' previous mark in the event.
The Pioneers had a third school record in the 4x400 relay. The team of Juan Barrera, Bradley, Elijah James and Mills came within a second of qualifying for NAIA nationals with a time of 3:20.14. That placed fifth and beat their previous time from earlier this year.
The jumps had some of the highest finishes on the day for Point Park. Freshman Akeem Mustapha placed second in both the long (22 feet, 8.5 inches) and high jumps (6 feet, 3.25 inches). Collins Eze was second in the triple jump (45 feet, 6.25 inches) with Mustapha (44 feet, 4 inches) right behind in third. Eze took third in the long jump (22 feet, 6.5 inches) and fifth in the high jump (6 feet, 1.25 inches).
Jannik Windelband placed second in the mile and seventh in the 800 meters. His mile time was 4:19.84, and his 800 time was 1:57.13, both of which were PRs. James came in right behind in the 800 taking seventh at 1:57.49. Ramiro Ulunque ran a PR in the mile placing fourth at 4:21.50.
Luke McKenna ran 16:05 in the 5,000 meters for ninth place. Jordan Kullen's time of 9:40 in the 3,000 was good for 22nd place, right in front of Gabe Ebersole at 9:56.
Point Park had seven entries in the 400 led by Bradley's school record in sixth. Barrera was ninth at 50.08 with Damir Lomax 16th at 51.08.
Louis Becamel led four Pioneers in the 60-meter dash. That was with a time of 7.17 econds for 13th place. Maxwell Goode ran 7.35 for 25th place.
Mustapha had Point Park's best time in the 200 meters taking 25th at 23.42 seconds.
Ezra Borczon cleared 8 feet, 8.75 inches in the pole vault for his best height of the year. That placed 12th.
David Attram paced the Pioneers in both of the throws tossing 42 feet, 8 inches in the shot put for 21st place and 41 feet, 3 inches in the weight throw for 24th.
Point Park is going to the Kent State Doug Raymond National Qualifier on Jan. 26 & 27 and to the Muskingum Meet #3 on Jan. 27 for its next competitions.
