Bio

João Benassi-Silva enters his second season as a Graduate Assistant & Assistant Coach for Point Park Men’s soccer team in 2024. Silva will be responsible for the analysis of players’ performance as well as assisting with on and off the field duties.

In his first season at Point Park University, Silva helped the Pioneers post a 10-6-3 overall record in 2023 and finished third in the RSC conference with a 6-3-1 record. The Pioneers played the RSC Championship and advanced to the semifinals.

Silva is originally from São Paulo, Brazil, and is a familiar face for Coach Williams as he played for him for three seasons (2019-2021) at Brescia University (Ky.). The former midfielder during his collegiate career received many awards including the St. Sebastian Scholar Athlete and River State Conference Second Team recognition during his time at Brescia. 

In 2021, Silva was a key player to lead Brescia to their best conference finish in the River State Conference, closing the season with a record of 6-2-1 to place second in the RSC regular season, and securing a hosting spot for the RSC Championship Semifinals.

Prior to joining the coaching staff at Point Park, João Silva graduated at Brescia University with a double major in Psychology and Pre-Med. Currently, Silva is on his second year of the MBA program at Point Park University. Silva intends to tie together his experience in the psychology field with the business side of the sports.

Silva is also integrated in the community by coaching soccer to kids and adolescents.
