ATHENS, W.Va. – Concord scored two goals in the final 13 minutes to pick up a 2-1 victory over visiting Point Park on Wednesday afternoon at Callaghan Stadium in Athens.
With the victory, Concord improved to 8-2-2 overall and 7-1-2 in league play. Point Park falls to 5-6-1 overall and 3-6-1 in the league.
Point Park's leading goal scorer Nils Benning found the back of the net for the sixth time on Wednesday to give the Pioneers a 1-0 lead in the 15th minute. Benning's goal was assisted by Moritz Sarfert.
The score remained 1-0 in favor of PPU for 62 minutes. In the 77th minute, Concord's Malher Santi Possu beat the Point Park defense to tie the game 1-1. The goal was assisted by Kai Forsyth and Julian Correa.
Santi Possu struck again in the 80th minute to provide the game-winner for Concord, this time with an assist from Richard Henry and Zakari Messam.
Despite tailing for 62 minutes of game play, Concord held a 19-4 advantage in total shots (8-2 in shots on goal). The teams each had four corner kick opportunities.
Point Park will wrap up its four-game road swing on Sunday afternoon at Wheeling University. Kickoff is set for 12 noon.
