PITTSBURGH – Ruben Kuypers' goal in the 68th minute lifted Point Park to a 2-1 victory over West Liberty on Saturday afternoon at Highmark Stadium. The game-clinching goal was assisted by Moritz Sarfert.
With the win, Point Park improves to 3-2-1 overall and 2-2-1 in MEC play. West Liberty falls to 2-3-1 overall and 0-3 in the league following the loss.
After a scoreless first half, West Liberty got on the scoreboard first with a goal by Jasper Newton in the 55th minute.
Just under two minutes later, Bruno Lancellotti scored Point Park's first goal of the day with an assist from Javier Morejon.
Statistically, West Liberty held a 19-17 advantage in total shots, but Point Park held a 10-8 edge in shots on goal.
Kuypers and Gabin Caillavet each recorded two shots on goal to lead the Pioneer offense, while Newton and Zachary Forehand led the Hilltoppers with two shots apiece.
In goal, David Ali had seven saves for the Poineers. West Liberty's Colton Callen faced 10 shots on goal and recorded eight saves.
Point Park will host West Virginia Wesleyan on Wednesday in another Mountain East Conference matchup at Highmark Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
