Men's Soccer Continues MEC Play at Frostburg State on Saturday

PITTSBURGH – After playing two of the top three teams in the Mountain East Conference Preseason Men's Soccer Poll last week, the Pioneers return to action on Saturday evening at Frostburg State. The conference showdown is set for a 7 p.m. kickoff from Bobcat Stadium.

Point Park will be looking to get back to .500, as the Pioneers come into the game with an overall record of 1-2 (0-2 MEC). Frostburg State is 2-0 on the season (1-0 MEC) with wins over West Virginia Wesleyan (W, 2-0) and the University of District of Columbia (W, 3-0).

Point Park Storylines

  • Through three games this season, Point Park has nine goals, including eight during an 8-1 win over Chatham in non-conference play.
  • The Pioneers dropped a 2-1 final to Concord last Sunday in their MEC opener, before falling to defending league champion Charleston by a 1-0 decision on Wednesday on the road.
  • Three players have two goals for the Pioneers this season, including Nils Benning, Cheroky Briard and Javier Morejon.
  • Fridolin Gefrorer passed out three assists in Point Park's win over Chatham to lead the team in the category.
  • In three starts, goalkeeper David Ali has allowed four goals this season, currently holding a 1.33 goals-against average and a .800 saves percentage. Ali has recorded 16 saves this season.
  • In conference play, Point Park has not surrendered a second-half goal this season.
  • Offensively, Point Park has been limited to just seven shots-on-goal in conference matches this season.
  • Following Saturday's road game at Frostburg State, Point Park will return home for three-straight, beginning on Wednesday against Wheeling University. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Highmark Stadium.
