Point Park Men's Soccer Edged at UC

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Charleston's goal in the 34th minute proved to be the difference in a 1-0 win over Point Park men's soccer on Wednesday night at the Welch Athletic Complex in Charleston.

UC's Caio Moraes scored the goal with an assist from Sam Newell to help Charleston to the win.

Charleston is now 2-0-1 on the season, including 2-0 in league play. PPU falls to 1-2 overall and 0-2 in league play.

Point Park was limited to just one shot on the evening, which came in the 47th minute by Finn Syson. The scoring chance was saved in the bottom left of the goal by UC's Nicolai Gundersen to keep the Pioneers off the scoreboard.

Charleston held a 19-1 advantage in total shots and an 8-2 edge in corner kicks.

Point Park goalkeeper David Ali faced eight shots on goal in the game and recorded seven saves in a huge effort by the graduate student from Metz, France. Gundersen recorded his third shutout of the season for the Golden Eagles.

Point Park will return to action on Saturday evening at Frostburg State. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Bobcat Stadium.
