
Point Park Men's Golf takes fourth at Alice Lloyd (Ky.) Invitational, Loughry wins medalist title
RICHMOND, Ky. -- Point Park University men's golf opened its spring season with a fourh-place finish out of 13 teams at the Alice Lloyd (Ky.) College Battlefield Invitational on Saturday-Sunday, March 23-24. Troy Loughry won the tournament individually taking medalist honors shooting 1-under par over in the 36-hole event.
Loughry, a junior from Grove City, Pa., was tied for the first-round lead with a 1-under 69 on Saturday. He followed that up shooting even-par 70 over the final 18 holes to win by one shot.
Point Park had a solid team score of 304 in the first round. The Pioneers improved that by nine shots on day two with a score of 295, the first time they have been under 300 in quite some time.
Point Park's team score was strong with each of the individuals coming through. The Pioneers had four players who each shot in the 70s for two straight rounds. They nearly had five players in the 70s both days outside of one player.
Loughry's win included three birdies on the first day -- all on the front 9 -- as he shot 33 on that side. On Sunday, he came through with 15 pars, two birdies and one bogey to come through with the victory. The conditions were tough all weekend with temperatures in the 40s and windy.
Anthony Santilli, a senior from Pittsburgh, made it two Point Park finisher in the Top 10 shooting 75-74 to tie for 10th place. He played the back nine in 1-over on Sunday to shoot 74 on the day.
Anthony Maltony, a newcomer this semester, shot rounds of 78 and 75 in his Point Park debut. Alex Zinz, a freshman, put together some of his best scores of the year at 77-79.
Tharcisse Kalinda, who transferred in this past fall, shot a 76 in the final round to help the Pioneers get into the 200s. He opened up with an 82. Loris Vollant made his first appearance for the Pioneers after transferring in this semester. The native of France shot 84 in the final round after opening up at 91.
In the team standings, Point Park finished fourth but was just two shots out of second place. Murray State College (298-292) won with a two-day total of 590. Walters State was next with a final score of 597 with Kentucky State 598 and Point Park 599.
Point Park's next event is the Northwestern Ohio Spring Invitational on Friday-Saturday, March 29-30.
