Point Park Men's Golf wins 1st Place at Westminster Fall Invitational for first victory in over 5 years
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Point Park University men's golf earned its first tournament victory in over five years with its first-place finish at the Westminster Fall Invitational on Monday, Oct. 9 from New Castle Country Club. The Pioneers shot 309 to win by five shots in the field of 12 teams from around the area.
Point Park had the top two players in the field individually with Troy Loughry picking up his third individual win of the fall season and teammate Tharcisse Kalinda placing second. The Pioneers had three players in the Top 10 with Anthony Santilli placing in a tie for sixth.
Loughry shot 1-over 73 after a strong back 9 to win by three strokes over teammate Kalinda and Ellian Ascencio from Westminster, who tied for second. He played the final 10 holes at 3-under par with all three birdies on the day coming during those holes. Loughry shot 2-under 34 on the back.
Kalinda also had three birdies on the day and played the back 9 well. He was 1-under 35 on the back to get into the tie for second with a 76 (+4). Santilli had a team-high four birdies on the day on his way to shooting 78 (+6). Three of the birdies came on the back 9, where he was even with a 36.
Tyler Hillard shot 82 to round out Point Park's team score. He came in with seven birdies on the back nine to secure the five-shot victory for the team. Alex Zinz shot 92 with three pars in his final four holes for Point Park.
The Pioneers completed their fall season with the latest win at Westminster and placing third at both Grove City and Earlham to highlight the six tournaments they played in. They will be back for a full spring season, which includes the RSC Championship at The Resort at Glade Springs in April 2024.
