Point Park competes in NCAA Division II field at Mercyhurst Invitational

NORTH EAST, Pa. -- Point Park University competed versus an NCAA Division II field again when it played at the Mercyhurst Invitational Friday-Saturday, Oct. 6-7 at Lake View Country Club. The Pioneers shot scores of 318 and 319 to place 13th of 16 teams there. 

Point Park was the only NAIA school in the tournament, which was 18 holes each day for a total of 36. The tournament got colder and rainier as it went on. The Pioneers ended up with a respectable showing versus the bigger schools. Point Park was 15 shots out of making the Top 10.

Troy Loughry got another Top 10 individually placing in a tie for ninth place. That was with a score of 3-over 147 for the tournament. Loughry started out with a 73 and finished with a 74. He made five birdies on the weekend, including three on Friday. Loughry was seven shots off the medalist pace of Reese Watson (70-70) from California (Pa.).

Anthony Santilli opned with a 76 and tied for 48th after coming in with an 82. Tyler Hillard was consistent both days shooting a pair of 83's for the Pioneers. Tharcisse Kalinda shot 80 on Saturday to knock six strokes off his opening score. Alex Zinz was Point Park's fifth place at 86-87. 

Point Park will finish the fall season at the Westminster Invitational Oct. 9 at New Castle Country Club.
