Point Park moves up to 7th of 12 teams in RSC Men's Golf Fall Preview

DANIELS, W.Va. -- Point Park University men's golf moved up to seventh place in the RSC from last spring to this fall. The Pioneers finished seventh of 12 teams in the River States Conference Men's Golf Fall Preview held Monday-Tuesday, Oct. 2-3 at The Resort at Glade Springs in Daniels, W.Va.

The Pioneers were 10th of 11 teams at the RSC Championship held in Spring 2023. Six months later, Point Park has moved up the ranks. It was not further up the leaderboard as fully desired, but the Pioneers made a move partway there. This is Point Park's first full season since 2018 under head coach Gabe Bubon.

Point Park shot 314 in the final round on Tuesday, which was the fifth-best team score of the day. The Pioneers opened up with a 326 to put themselves in a tie for ninth after the first day. But they moved up the leaderboard with some of the best individual scores on the second day.

Troy Loughry shot 74 in the second round, which along with teammate Anthony Santilli shooting the same that day, had one of the seven best scores in the final round. Loughry made it all the way up to a tie for eighth place after opening up with a 78.

Point Park's Tharcisse Kalinda shot 78-76 to tie for 14th. Santilli's final-round effort of 2-over 74 pulled him up into a tie for 30th. Point Park also had Tyler Hillard and Alex Zinz competing with their best scores of the week being 83 and 91, respectively.

The Pioneers were able to move ahead of Oakland City (Ind.), St. Mary-of-the-Woods (Ind.) and Alice Lloyd (Ky.) from last spring until this fall. They also finished ahead of the team that was added to the conference, which was Shawnee State (Ohio).

IU East won the RSC Fall Preview in a playoff over Rio Grande (Ohio). IU East shot 302-306 while Rio Grande shot 301-307 to put both teams at 608 through two days. WVU Tech (308-302) was two shots back at 610 for third place with IU Kokomo fourth at 615 and Midway (Ky.) fifth at 620. Point Park was four shots behind sixth-place Brescia (Ky.) at 636.
