Point Park places third at Earlham Invitational, Loughry wins second tournament in a row

RICHMOND, Ind. -- Point Park University men's golf earned another high finish of third place at the Earlham (Ind.) College Forest Hills Invitational on Saturday and Sunday in Richmond, Ind. The Pioneers placed third of 11 teams at the 36-hole event with Troy Loughry winning the individual title for his second win in a row.

The Pioneers started out with a 303 in the first round on Saturday. The Pioneers finished with a score of 313 in the final round Sunday to notch their second third-place finish of the weekend. They were third at the Grove City Invitational on Thursday.

Loughry's win backed up his medalist title at Grove City. This time, he shot 2-over for the weekend to win by two strokes. Loughry, from Grove City, Pa., shot a 3-under 68 in the first round and then came through with a 76 on Sunday. That beat Jacob Paine of Franklin College, who shot 69-77 to finish two shots back at 4-over. Paine birdied the 18th hole on Sunday. But Loughry drained a long putt on that final hole to ensure the win by two.

Point Park had three players in the top 12 finishers. That was with Anthony Santilli placing solo sixth. He opened up with a 3-over 74 and finished with a 78 on Sunday, the latter of which had a couple of birdies. Tharcisse Kalinda shot 77 both days, which included a scorecard of 38-39 in the final round. Tyler Hillard tied for 33rd of 57 players in the field with rounds of 84 and 82.

Loughry was second in the tournament with 22 pars over the 36 holes. He was also among the leaders in birdies with seven with six of those coming in the first round. Santilli played the par 5s in 1-under, as did Loughry. Kalinda had 19 pars on the weekend to rank fifth in the entire tournament.

Franklin College won the team title riding a strong round of 293 on Saturday. Franklin shot 309 on Sunday to win by 11 strokes over Spalding (307-306). For the complete team and individual leaderboard, click the results link above.
