Bio


Derrick Cook joined the Point Park University Men’s Basketball staff as Assistant Coach in August 2024. The Northeast San Antonio, TX native enters his first season with the Point Park Pioneers, led by head coach Kevin Reynolds. In his role, Cook plays an integral part in the program, assisting in recruiting, practice planning, scouting reports, skill development, video coordination, and all operational tasks.

Prior to his arrival in Pittsburgh, Cook spent three seasons as an Assistant Coach on the Men’s Basketball staff at Edinboro University. During his tenure at Edinboro, Cook coached standout players on the court including Deontae Robertson, who earned 2nd Team All-Conference honors in the 2021-2022 season, and Bernie Blunt, who was named 2nd Team All-Conference in the 2023-2024 season. Cook also coached standout players in the classroom including Jack Gallagher, and Alex Jay who were selected for their academic efforts by the National Association of Basketball Coaches Honors Court for the 2021-2022 season.

Before his time at Edinboro, Cook served as an Administrative Assistant on the Men’s Basketball staff at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi for the 2020-2021 season under head coach Willis Wilson.

As a student-athlete, Cook attended Murray State College (OK), an NJCAA Division 1 program competing in Region 2. He later transferred to Huston-Tillotson University in Austin, TX, where he started over 40 games across two seasons for the Rams, served as Team Captain, and was recognized with Honor Roll and Character awards.

Cook graduated from Byron P. Steele II High School, earned his undergraduate degree from Huston-Tillotson University, and received his Master of Business Administration from Pennsylvania Western University.
