Point Park runs away from PSU-Greater Allegheny for 107-58 win

PITTSBURGH -- Point Park University men's basketball pulled away from Penn State-Greater Allegheny on its way to a 107-58 victory on Monday at CCAC-Allegheny. The Pioneers improved to 2-0 on the young season by getting out to a 62-26 lead at halftime.

Point Park had four starters in double figures and five overall in the non-conference win. The Pioneers were holding on to a 6-4 lead the first few minutes before a quick run of 16-0 sent them on their way.

The run continued for a 27-8 lead on a jumper at the 12:23 mark by Jamisen Smith, who led all scorers with 18 points. Jalen Stamps was next with 16 points, and his trey made the score 39-13 later in the half. 

Nazareth Fisher, a 6-10 transfer, came off the bench for 12 points and 13 rebounds. Smith found him for a layup and a 45-18 lead a the under-5 media timeout of the first half. 

Jo Valrie with 15 points and Nathaniel Van with 14 both registered double digits from the starting lineup. Valrie grabbed six rebounds and made 5 of 8 shooting while Van pulled in eight boards on 5 for 10 from the field. Final starter Jags Jhawar had five points, six rebounds -- all defensive -- made both of his shots and his free throw. 

Jordan Stowe tallied eight points, eight rebounds and five assists off the bench. Amistad Hackett chipped in nine points making three 3-pointers. 

The Pioneers made their free throws going 22 for 26 at the line. Point Park shot 48 percent for the game, which included 57 percent the first half. Point Park made 11 treys with two each from Smith, Stamps and Van along Hackett's three. 

Rebounding was a big advantage for the Pioneers, 61-28. Six different players had at least five boards as the Pioneers surpassed 60 total rebounds for the second game in a row. Defensively, PSU-GA was held to 26-percent in the first half and 35 percent on the night. 

Point Park continues its five-game homestand to start the season this coming weekend. The Pioneers play NAIA opponent Fisher (Mass.) on Friday at 7:00 p.m. before hosting PSU-Schuylkill Saturday at 7 p.m. and Michigan-Dearborn next Monday at 1 p.m. as part of a three-team classic.
