11 Pioneers named to All-RSC Baseball Teams; Williams Freshman of the Year

CHILLICOTHE, Ohio – The River States Conference released the 2024 All-RSC Baseball Teams & Awards at the RSC Championship in Chillicothe, Ohio. 11 Pioneers were honored at the awards with freshman Chris Williams coming home with a big individual honor for Point Park.

 

2024 RSC FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR

Chris Williams (Fr./ Miami, Fla.) was named the 2024 RSC Freshman of the Year as he carded a .385 batting average on 62 hits including nine home runs and 10 doubles. Williams also drove in 46 runs and has scored 45 times in his 47 games.

All-RSC Baseball First Team

Point Park saw six of its players be named to the All-RSC Baseball First Team. Including Williams, also being named to the team was Michali Brito, Isaac Santana, Carlos Martinez, Jared Campbell, and Eddie Javier Jr.

Michali Brito (Sr./ Bayahibe, Dominican Repbulic) earned first team honors at catcher hitting .437 in conference play on 31 hits in 71 at bats. Brito had six doubles and four home runs while knocking in 23 runs and scoring 13 times.

Second baseman Isaac Santana (Sr./ Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) was also named to the first team. In conference play Santana had 37 hits which included seven doubles and 10 homeruns on the way to a .366 batting average. The senior knocked in 38 RBIs while scoring 29 runs for the Pioneers.

The third Pioneer named to the first team was the shortstop Carlos Martinez (Jr./ Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico). Martinez boasted a .392 batting average in RSC play as the junior had 29 hits including nine doubles and four homeruns. Martinez also brought in 23 runs and scored 20 runs himself.

Former NAIA All-American Jared Campbell (Sr./ Sunrise, Fla.) once again was named to the first team. The outfielder had 33 hits in conference play while also scoring 33 times to end conference play with a .367 batting average. Campbell had six doubles and eight home runs on the way to knocking in 25 RBIs.

The final Pioneer to be named to the All-RSC Baseball First Team was Eddie Javier Jr. (Sr./ Bergenfield, N.J.). Javier Jr. held a .387 batting average as the senior had 24 hits in 62 at bats to end conference play. In his 24 hits, four of those were doubles and three were home runs. Javier Jr. scored 25 runs while also picking up 13 RBIs for the Pioneers.

All-RSC Baseball Second Team

For Point Park pitcher Ramon Rodriquez and utility player Luis Gonzalez were named to the All-RSC Baseball Second Team.

Only a sophomore, Ramon Rodriquez (Cayey, Puerto Rico) saw promising results as the pitcher went 5-1 in conference play with a 3.31 ERA in 9 appearances. Rodriquez picked up 57 strikeouts in 49.0 innings on the mound for the Pioneers.

Luis Gonzales (So./ Caracas, Venezuela) was the other Pioneer to be named to the second team. In 21 games the utility player hit .359 in conference play picking up 28 hits including four doubles and eight homeruns. Gonzalez scored and knocked in 29 runs as well.

All-RSC Baseball Third Team

Being named to the third team for the Pioneers was pitcher Javier Cardoso and second baseman Omar Morillo.

Javier Cardoso (Jr./ Miami, Fla.) was in the main pitching rotation for the Pioneers this year as Cardoso picked up three wins in nine appearances. In 40.0 innings of work, Cardoso boasted a 4.05 ERA while picking up 42 strikeouts in conference play.

Second baseman Omar Morillo (Jr./ Barinas, Venezuela) was also named to the second team. In conference play Morillo had a .404 batting average picking up 38 hits on 94 at bats. The junior knocked in 13 RBIs on seven doubles and a home run while scoring 24 times himself.

All-RSC Baseball Gold Glove Team

Jared Campbell was also named to the All-RSC Baseball Gold Glove Team in right field for the Pioneers. In conference play Campbell was perfect in the field as he had 44 putouts in 44 total chances throughout 24 games.

All-RSC Baseball Champions of Character Team

The recipient of the 2024 All-RSC Baseball Champions of Character Team for Point Park was Jean Santos (Sr./ Caguas, Puerto Rico). The RSC Champions of Character Team recognizes one player from each school who best exemplifies the NAIA's character traits of respect, responsibility, integrity, servant leadership, and sportsmanship.

All-RSC Baseball Scholar-Athlete Team

To be named, student-athletes must have a 3.25 grade-point average or higher, have at least two semesters of attendance prior to the current term, participate in an RSC sport and be nominated by their institution.  Point Park had nine members of the team be named to the Scholar-Athlete team which included Cole Wajda, Eddie Javier Jr., Ethan Parker, Ethan Van Scoy, Isaac Santana, Jean Santos, Joathan Rivera, Jose Moreno, and Michali Brito.
