
Point Park beats IUPUC, 11-4, to begin River States weekend series
COLUMBUS, Ind. -- Point Park University baseball began its River States Conference series at IUPUC with an 11-4 win on Sunday. The series was pushed back two days due to weather.
When the series began, the Pioneers (9-7, 3-1 RSC) were down a couple of runs in the early innings. Then they came alive for six runs in the third to build leads of 6-2 and 11-3 on their way to the opening victory.
Point Park had 13 hits on the day with Omar Morillo dazzling with a 5 for 6 performance from the leadoff spot. He also scored a run and drove in another.
Luis Gonzales was 3 for 5 with three RBIs. Carlos Martinez went 2 for 4 and scored twice while Isaac Santana singled, doubled, scored twice and had an RBI.
On the mound, Javier Cardoso shook off a couple of unearned runs for the early deficit of 2-0. He proceeded to retire 13 of the final 14 batters he faced from the third inning through the seventh. Cardoso went 7.0 innings with one earned run, four hits, eight strikeouts and no walks.
Logan Creamer and Joey Tedesco covered the eighth and ninth innings with one run allowed combined.
