
Cody Golon named as first ever head coach for Point Park men's lacrosse program
PITTSBURGH, Pa. – On Tuesday July 25, 2024, Point Park University's Vice President of Athletics Scott Swain announced the hiring of Cody Golon as the universities first ever head men's lacrosse coach.
"Cody rose to the top of our talented applicant pool early in our process. His collegiate head coaching experience and knowledge of regional lacrosse was clearly evident during his interview. I know myself and our search committee enjoyed his enthusiasm for what we are building here with Pioneer Athletics. He will be a great leader for our new program on all levels." said Swain.
Cody Golon will be coming to Point Park from NCAA institution, Washington & Jefferson College, which is located 35 minutes outside of Pittsburgh. During his time at Washington & Jefferson, Golon served as the head coach for the men's lacrosse team from 2021 through 2024. Through his three years he coached nine all-conference players, coached the program's first Academic All-American, had the highest scoring offense at W&J in the last decade during the 2022 season, had the best scoring defense in the last decade during the 2023 season, as well as have the best clearing percentage in the last decade during the 2023 season.

I am beyond excited to start this new opportunity and the energy around the direction of Point Park's Athletic Department was palpable." Golon continued to state, "It is easy to tell right away that everyone is very excited for the future, both of the department and the University as a whole. I am really looking forward to having the opportunity to coach and recruit in the city I am from, as well as eventually getting a chance to play in one of the best stadiums in all of DII lacrosse."
Before becoming the head coach at Washington and Jefferson, Golon was the head coach at fellow NCAA School La Roche University in 2021 where he led the Redhawks to a 2-2 record during a shortened 2021 season.
Golon also served as the assistant coach at his alma mater, Seton Hill University. As the assistant coach he specialized as the Offensive Coordinator for a team that finished 12-5 during the 2019 season, won the GMAC regular season championship, and earned a bid to the NCAA Division II Playoffs.
For two seasons before going back to Seton Hill, Golon served as the Assistant Coach and Head JV Coach at Peters Township High School. During his time at the school the Indians posted a 33-11 record while securing two section and WPIAL championships as well as two PIAA state playoff berths. At Peters Township, Golon coached three All-American, a WPIAL Player of the Year, and multiple All-Section winners.
Golon is a 2015 graduate of Seton Hill University where he earned his Bachelor's degree in Communication while also competing collegiately as a student-athlete with the Griffins. During his time as a Griffin, Seton Hill qualified for the postseason three times while making the NCAA Tournament in 2013 followed by back-to-back appearances in the ECAC tournament in 2014-15. While at Seton Hill, Goldon was named the Conference Player of the Week after the Griffins beat the #1 ranked team in the country, was named the 2014 Communication Award Winner at Seton Hill, and was on the dean's list multiple times. Golon also recently graduated from Seton Hill University with his Master's in Business Administration in 2020.
Golon was born and raised in Pittsburgh as he grew up in Whitehall and attended Baldwin-Whitehall High School where he was a four year letter winner for the lacrosse team and was named the WPIAL DII player of the Year during his senior year
