Bio
Scott Swain came to Point Park University on Jan. 23, 2024. He was officially named Vice President & Athletic Director on April 8, 2024 after serving in an interim capacity for that same role since arriving on campus a few months earlier. Swain was most recently at Notre Dame (Ohio) College, where he was Vice President for Athletics, Recreation & Campus Facilities for 12 years.
Swain has been in charge of Notre Dame College's athletics program since 2012 and was one of the founding athletic directors of the Mountain East Conference (MEC) in NCAA Division II – the same conference Point Park has been invited to join.
Through his work at Notre Dame, Swain served as Chairman of the MEC's Committee of Athletic Administrators from 2016-21 and, since June 2019, has served on the Board of Directors for the NCAA Division II Athletic Directors Association, representing the MEC.
"Scott's experience will be an extraordinary asset to us as we navigate the process of applying for membership to the NCAA so we can officially join the MEC later this year," said Dr. Chris W. Brussalis, President of Point Park.
Swain led Notre Dame athletics for 12 years and guided the college in a transition from the NAIA to NCAA Division II status. After that came multiple National Championships and countless achievements.
A Columbus, Ohio, native Swain came back to his home state in July of 2012 after working six years at the University of Tennessee. Following a promotion to Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics in the fall of 2021, Swain began to also oversee all campus facilities in the summer of 2023.
The Notre Dame wrestling team won two NCAA Division II national championships during Swain's tenure. The men's and women's rugby teams both won a national title as well in 2017 and 2014, respectively. The football team was on top of the MEC for five straight years from 2018-22 and made a national semifinals appearance in 2018.
The men's soccer team made seven trips to the national tournament with the women's soccer team going three times. The men's and women's basketball teams also made their first trips to the NCAA Division II national tournaments in 2019 and 2020, respectively.
In addition to those highlights, Notre Dame athletics has tallied 13 MEC Tournament Championships, 11 MEC Regular Season Championships, 108 student-athletes have earned All-American status and 47 have been named Academic All-America.
